Distractions are a huge factor when it comes to doing an assignment for school. As college students, we can face many of them. One huge distraction for me is technology. We live in a world now a day where technology is everywhere and we can’t get away from it. I don’t think we realize how much it distracts us until we really think about. As I sit here and think about it I realize it is a huge distraction for me in many ways. My cellphone is the one thing that distracts me the most. I find myself constantly picking It up and scrolling through my social media or just texting back friends or family and not putting it back down for 20 minutes.
Can I become a better writer? I have been thinking about this a lot recently and It’s tough to say right now. I do think I could become I better writer in some ways if I put my mind to it and find the right writing process in writing. I want to become a better writer and I want to be able to pull the reader in and have them be so into the story that they feel like they are experiencing that story with me. So, as I talk about this here are some key processes I think that can help me become a better writer and avoid distractions. First: I need to be comfortable. I can’t stand wearing uncomfortable clothes or sitting in a comfortable spot. As people get to know me they realize my wardrobe is more comfortable and casual. I feel like I get frustrated and distracted when I’m not wearing comfortable clothes. Second: I need to turn my cellphone off. it is a huge distraction for me that I’ve noticed a lot. I find myself constantly picking it up and not putting it down for 20 minutes or so when that happens. Third: All sounds need to be off, I find that if the television is on in the background or if I hear music I get distracted and off topic. It has always been that way for me I don’t know why but it just is the way I am. Fourth: I need to write down ideas before I get into the actual assignment. I find if I write down some ideas on what I want to write about I can jump into the topic better. I can write a list or just jot down some ideas or free write before getting to the first draft of the assignment. Fifth: I need to eat. I can’t focus on anything if I’m hungry and if my stomach is empty I won’t be able to focus and I won’t get my work done. Maybe I can eat before I start writing or have a snack nearby. Sixth: I need to write in a comfortable spot. I typically like to do most of my work in my bed or on the couch under a big blanket. I typically feel more at ease when I’m sitting in a comfortable spot and I’m nice and warm. These are just a few processes that I think can help me be less distracted when writing and help me become a better writer.
